Two men hacked to death in Mayurbhanj village; intoxicated accused arrested
Bhubaneswar, May 13: In a shocking incident, two persons were allegedly hacked to death in Kulughutu village under Tiring police station limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday morning. Police have detained and arrested the accused, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the attack.
The deceased have been identified as Gopinath Sardar and Budheswar Rana, both residents of the same village. The accused, identified as Mochka Alda, allegedly attacked the duo with an iron rod (sabal), killing them on the spot.
According to reports, the incident occurred between 8:30 am and 9:00 am when the accused was standing outside his house in an intoxicated condition. As the two victims were passing by the area, he allegedly launched a sudden and violent assault on them without any apparent provocation.
The brutal attack triggered panic among villagers, who rushed to the spot after hearing commotion. Locals overpowered the accused, tied him up, and allegedly assaulted him before informing the police about the incident.
On receiving information, personnel from Tiring police station immediately reached the village and rescued the accused from the angry mob. He was first shifted to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Rairangpur for treatment and later formally arrested.
Police said no previous enmity between the accused and the victims has come to light so far. Preliminary investigation suggests the attack may have been carried out in a drunken state. However, the exact motive behind the double murder is yet to be established.
