Nayagarh police officer suspended over harassment allegations
Bhubaneswar, May 2: A police officer in Nayagarh district has been placed under suspension following serious allegations of sexual harassment and misuse of official position.
Madanmohan Pradhan, former Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Khandapada, was suspended by the state Home Department after a woman from the Fatehgarh police station area accused him of making obscene advances through phone calls and WhatsApp messages.
According to the complaint, the officer allegedly tried to coerce the woman into a relationship by promising to settle an old case registered at the police station. She further alleged that he repeatedly summoned her to his office, exerted mental pressure, and threatened to implicate her husband in criminal cases if she refused his demands.
The complainant also accused Pradhan of seeking inappropriate photographs and attempting to force her into a physical relationship. She claimed that despite her resistance, the harassment continued.
As evidence, the woman submitted an audio clip in which the officer is allegedly heard asking her to meet him at night and suggesting an intimate relationship. She lodged complaints with senior police authorities and the State Women’s Commission.
Following the allegations, Pradhan was earlier transferred, and a departmental inquiry is now underway.
