Engaged woman found murdered in field in Jagatsinghpur; lover arrested
Bhubaneswar, April 23: In a shocking incident, the body of a young woman was recovered from a moong bean field near Kathiapada under Sadar police limits in Jagatsinghpur district, triggering widespread outrage.
The deceased has been identified as Dolly alias Sasmita Das, daughter of Promod Das and a resident of Kathiapada village. According to police, Sasmita had recently gotten engaged on April 19 and had returned home the following day from her maternal uncle’s house.
On Tuesday evening around 8 pm, she reportedly left home saying she would return shortly after visiting a neighbour. However, she did not come back, and her mobile phone was found switched off. Concerned family members searched throughout the night but failed to locate her.
On Wednesday evening, locals harvesting moong beans discovered her semi-naked body in the field and alerted police. Family members later identified the body.
During investigation, police found that Sasmita was allegedly murdered by her jilted lover after her engagement to another man. He reportedly lured her out and killed her. The accused has since been arrested from Jamshedpur.
Police, along with a scientific team and sniffer dogs, have launched a detailed probe to establish the full sequence of events.
