Fireworks banned at Narendra Pushkarini during Chandan Yatra in Puri
Bhubaneswar, April 18: The Puri Police have imposed a complete ban on bursting fireworks at Narendra Pushkarini during the upcoming 21-day outer Chandan Yatra, scheduled to begin on April 20.
Informing about the decision, Prateek Singh said the restriction will remain in force throughout the festival. The move comes in the wake of the tragic 2024 explosion at a firecracker stockpile during the Chandan Yatra festivities, which claimed 17 lives.
Police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the ban. Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the festival. The entire area around Narendra Pushkarini will be under CCTV surveillance, while five platoons of police force will be deployed.
The security setup will be led by an Additional Superintendent of Police, supported by multiple Deputy Superintendents, Inspectors, and homeguards. Anti-sabotage checks will be intensified, with special focus on crowd management and devotee safety.
Heavy police deployment will also be ensured during the movement of deities from the Jagannath Temple to the pond, while all rituals will continue as per tradition under strict safety norms.
