Pala performance turns violent in Jajpur, over 10 injured in clash
Bhubaneswar, April 7: A traditional Pala performance in Jajpur took a violent turn on Monday night, leaving more than 10 people injured and disrupting the cultural event midway.
The incident occurred at Kasaba village under Thalakudi panchayat in Dasarathapur block during the concluding night of a three-day Pala programme held at the local mandap. According to reports, a clash broke out between two rival groups from Bautra Sahi and Jia Sahi over undisclosed reasons.
Tensions escalated quickly as members of both groups allegedly resorted to stone-pelting and hurled glass bottles at each other. Sticks were also reportedly used during the scuffle, leading to injuries among several villagers present at the venue. The sudden outbreak of violence forced organisers to halt the event abruptly.
The injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities, including Mangalpur hospital and the District Headquarters Hospital in Jajpur, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Police from Mangalpur station reached the spot soon after the incident and have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the clash and identify those involved.
