Two tourists drown at Puri beach, safety concerns mount after repeated incidents

Bhubaneswar, Mar 30: A tragic incident unfolded at Puri on Monday morning as two tourists drowned while bathing at Sector 14 beach near the Light House area. The incident has once again raised alarm over safety measures at one of Odisha’s most popular tourist destinations.

According to reports, the tourists had entered the sea during the early hours when strong currents unexpectedly swept them away. Witnessing the situation, lifeguards rushed to the spot and managed to pull the victims out of the water after a rescue effort.

The rescued individuals were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared both of them dead upon arrival. Authorities said the identities of the deceased tourists are yet to be confirmed.

This marks the third drowning incident reported in Puri within a short span of time, intensifying concerns among locals and authorities. Frequent mishaps have prompted calls for stricter safety protocols, increased lifeguard deployment, and better awareness among visitors.

Officials have urged tourists to exercise caution while entering the sea, especially during rough conditions, to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
