25 police stations in Odisha lack own buildings, CM informs Assembly
Bhubaneswar, Mar 30: Responding to a query in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday revealed that 25 police stations across the state are currently functioning without their own dedicated buildings.
The information came in reply to a question raised by MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, who sought details on police stations operating from alternative or shared infrastructure. In his response, the Chief Minister stated that out of the 25 stations, as many as 24 are functioning from buildings belonging to other government departments, highlighting infrastructural gaps in policing facilities.
He further informed the House that the Sadar police station in Puri district is currently operating from a rented house, making it the only one among them without even a government building arrangement.
Providing updates on development plans, the Chief Minister said the state government has allocated Rs 4.96 crore in the 2023–24 financial year for constructing a new building for Raksajor police station in Balangir district. He added that construction of buildings for the remaining stations will be taken up in phases.
