Bhubaneswar, Mar 27: Former Member of Parliament and two-time MLA Narayan Sahu passed away on Friday afternoon at the age of 88 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He had been battling age-related health issues, and his condition reportedly deteriorated four days prior to his demise.

A native of Gehleikateni village under Parjang block in Dhenkanal district, Dr. Sahu had a distinguished political career. He represented the Pallahara Assembly constituency as a candidate of the Indian National Congress for two consecutive terms between 1971 and 1977. Later, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Deogarh parliamentary constituency, serving from 1980 to 1984.

Known for his strong grassroots connect, he enjoyed immense popularity in both Pallahara and Deogarh regions. After retiring from active politics in 1984, Dr. Sahu took an unconventional path by returning to academics.

Demonstrating remarkable dedication to learning, he completed his Post Graduation in Philosophy from Utkal University at the age of 73 and went on to earn a PhD in Philosophy at 81, inspiring many with his lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
