Odisha Assembly adjourned amid uproar over SCB fire tragedy
Bhubaneswar, Mar 25: The Odisha Legislative Assembly was adjourned till 11:30 am on Wednesday following intense protests by opposition BJD members over the SCB Medical College and Hospital fire tragedy that claimed 13 lives.
As soon as the House proceedings began, BJD MLAs entered wearing black T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “weak Chief Minister,” demanding the resignation of Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling. The opposition alleged government inaction and held the minister accountable for the incident.
Amid loud sloganeering and disruption, Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the Assembly till 11:30 am. Soon after, opposition members staged a walkout, intensifying the political confrontation.
BJD Chief Whip Pramila Mallick sharply criticized Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, accusing him of failing to act decisively. Echoing similar views, BJD MLA Arun Sahoo warned that the Chief Minister would be seen as weak if the Health Minister was not removed.
The protesting MLAs have vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are fulfilled, indicating further disruptions ahead.
