Sand mafia attack revenue officer in Balasore, two detained
Bhubaneswar, Mar 24: In a shocking incident highlighting the growing menace of illegal sand mining, an Additional Tehsildar and his driver were allegedly attacked by members of a sand mafia group in Balasore late Monday night.
The incident took place on Ainri Chhak Road in Soro when the officer was returning from Tentei and intercepted a truck suspected of illegally transporting sand. As part of routine enforcement, the Additional Tehsildar stopped the vehicle to verify its documents. However, the situation quickly escalated when the truck driver and his associates allegedly resisted the inspection.
According to reports, the accused physically assaulted the officer and fled the scene, leaving behind the vehicle and its keys. Shortly after, they reportedly returned, snatched the keys, blocked the road, and created panic among local residents. During the renewed confrontation, both the officer and his driver were attacked again.
A complaint has been lodged at the Anantapur police outpost against three individuals. Police reached the spot, seized the truck, and initiated legal action. Two suspects have been detained for questioning, while further investigation is underway to identify others involved.
