Bhubaneswar, Mar 24: The Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed high drama on Tuesday as proceedings were adjourned twice following intense protests by opposition BJD and Congress MLAs. The lawmakers demanded the resignation of Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling after a devastating fire at SCB Medical College and Hospital that reportedly claimed 13 lives.

As soon as the House convened, opposition members raised slogans, accusing the government of gross negligence and failure to ensure patient safety. The situation quickly escalated, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the Assembly till 4 pm. Several MLAs staged a walkout, continuing their protest outside.

When the session resumed later in the day, disruptions persisted. Some legislators even attempted to climb onto the Speaker’s podium, intensifying the chaos. Amid the turmoil, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo appealed for restraint and constructive dialogue.

He urged opposition members to participate in discussions instead of stalling proceedings, emphasizing the importance of the ongoing session. Despite his appeal, no business could be conducted, and the Assembly was ultimately adjourned for the day, reflecting a complete legislative standstill.
