Cybercrime cases on the rise in Odisha, CM informs Assembly
Bhubaneswar, Mar 23: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday informed the Odisha Legislative Assembly that cybercrime cases in the state have shown a steady increase over the past three years, raising concerns over digital safety and security.
Responding to a query raised by MLA Amar Kumar Nayak, the Chief Minister presented data indicating a rising trend in cyber-related offences. According to official figures, 2,348 cybercrime cases were registered in 2023. The number increased to 2,501 in 2024, and further rose to 2,803 cases in 2025, reflecting a consistent upward trend.
The Chief Minister acknowledged that the rise in cybercrime is a matter of concern and emphasized the need for stronger preventive and enforcement measures. He noted that with the rapid expansion of digital services and online transactions, incidents of fraud, hacking, and other cyber offences have also increased.
To address the issue, the state government has taken several steps, including the establishment of 34 dedicated cybercrime police stations across Odisha. These specialized units are tasked with handling cyber-related complaints and conducting investigations more efficiently.
In addition, the government has launched awareness campaigns to educate citizens about online safety, digital fraud prevention, and responsible internet usage, aiming to curb the growing menace of cybercrime in the state.
