Two arrested for issuing death threat to senior Congress leader Jayadev Jena
Bhubaneswar, Mar 23: Police have arrested two persons for allegedly issuing a death threat to senior Congress leader Jayadev Jena through WhatsApp, officials said on Thursday.
According to reports, Jena, a former minister and ex-president of the Odisha unit of the Indian National Congress, received a threatening message warning him not to visit Bhubaneswar. The message reportedly contained a death threat, causing concern for his safety.
Acting swiftly, Jena lodged a formal complaint at Nandipada police station in Keonjhar district on the same day. In his complaint, he alleged that despite informing top authorities, including the Chief Minister, Director General of Police (DGP), and the district Superintendent of Police, there had initially been a lack of prompt action.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and traced the source of the threatening messages, leading to the arrest of two individuals. Officials are currently interrogating the accused to determine the motive behind the threat and whether others are involved.
Sources revealed that this is not the first time Jena has received such threats. He had reportedly faced a similar incident in 2025, indicating a recurring pattern of intimidation.
Police have assured that strict action will be taken and adequate security measures will be ensured for the senior leader.
