Bhubaneswar, Mar 16: Police have arrested a man for allegedly impersonating a police officer and intimidating locals near the Hirakud Reservoir under Attabira police limits in Bargarh district.

According to reports, the accused, identified as Bikram Behera (33) of Ghulipali village under Town police station limits, was found roaming in a police uniform in the area near the Hirakud Dam. Locals reportedly grew suspicious of his activities and alerted the police after he allegedly began threatening people in the vicinity.

Acting on the information, a team from the Odisha Police reached the spot and detained the accused. During the operation, a motorcyclist who was accompanying Behera at the time managed to flee from the scene before police could apprehend him.

Following the arrest, a case has been registered against the accused at Attabira police station. Police officials have begun questioning Behera and are investigating whether he was involved in any illegal activities while posing as a police officer.

Investigators also revealed that the accused has a previous criminal record. In 2021, he was arrested by Bargarh police for allegedly impersonating an officer of the Regional Transport Office.
