Two killed in head-on truck collision on Bargarh–Sambalpur Highway
Bhubaneswar, Mar 13: A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two truck drivers after a severe head-on collision between two trucks near Dharmashala Chhak under Attabira police limits on the Bargarh–Sambalpur National Highway late Thursday night.
According to reports, the two trucks were travelling from opposite directions when they collided with tremendous force. The impact of the crash was so intense that both vehicles were completely mangled, trapping the drivers and their helpers inside the wreckage. The accident created panic in the area as locals rushed to help.
Local residents immediately informed the police and fire services about the mishap. Soon after receiving the alert, teams from Attabira Police and the Fire Services rushed to the accident site and launched a rescue operation. After considerable effort, rescuers managed to extricate the trapped drivers and their helpers from the severely damaged vehicles.
All the injured were initially taken to a nearby hospital for primary treatment. However, due to the critical nature of their injuries, they were later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla for advanced medical care. Unfortunately, both drivers succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
The accident temporarily disrupted traffic movement on the busy national highway. Authorities later removed the damaged vehicles from the road, restoring normal traffic flow. Meanwhile, Attabira Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fatal collision.
