Man hacked to death outside Bhanjanagar court in broad daylight
Bhubaneswar, Mar 5: In a shocking incident, a 44-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death with an axe in broad daylight outside the Additional District Judge (ADJ) court in Bhanjanagar town of Ganjam district on Thursday, sending shockwaves through the area.
The deceased has been identified as Ashok Kumar Swain, a resident of Buduli village. According to reports, Ashok had visited the court to attend the hearing of a case. After completing his legal work and stepping out of the court premises, he was suddenly attacked by a man armed with a sharp weapon.
The assailant allegedly struck Ashok multiple times with an axe, causing severe injuries to his head and both hands. The brutal assault occurred in front of several passersby, creating panic and chaos near the court complex.
Local residents quickly rushed to the spot and managed to overpower the attacker before alerting the police. Meanwhile, the critically injured Ashok was immediately taken to the Bhanjanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Police soon arrived at the scene, seized the axe used in the attack and detained the accused for interrogation. The motive behind the murder is yet to be established. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
