RC cancellation looms for vehicles without PUCC, fitness certificates in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: The Registration Certificate (RC) of vehicles in Odisha may be cancelled if they do not possess valid Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) and fitness documents, Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena warned on Thursday.
Issuing a stern advisory to vehicle owners and operators, the Minister said enforcement of PUCC norms will be intensified across the state. He urged all vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles carry valid pollution and fitness certificates to avoid strict penal action.
Jena stated that vehicles found operating without valid PUCC and fitness documents could face cancellation of their RCs. Habitual violators and those repeatedly flouting transport regulations may also face similar action. The Transport Department will soon launch intensified inspection drives, with special focus on school buses to strengthen student safety.
Highlighting reforms in vehicle fitness certification, the Minister said fitness tests will now be conducted through an Automated Testing System (ATS). Construction of ATS centres is currently underway in multiple districts. Although earlier deadlines could not be met in five districts, temporary manual arrangements have been made.
The government has set a fresh target to complete ATS infrastructure soon and streamline the issuance of vehicle fitness certificates statewide.
