Husband sets wife ablaze over domestic dispute in Balasore; four critical
Bhubaneswar, Feb 18: A shocking incident of domestic violence surfaced from Narayanpur village under Baliapal police limits in Balasore district, where a man allegedly poured petrol on his wife and set her on fire following a family dispute.
The incident took place on Tuesday night and left four members of the woman’s family critically injured when they tried to rescue her. According to reports, the accused, Karunakara Kabi, had married Rajendra Samantray’s daughter seven years ago. The couple has two children, but their marriage was reportedly plagued by frequent quarrels and alleged harassment, prompting the woman to seek legal intervention earlier.
Unable to endure the torture, she had been staying at her parents’ house for the past month. On Tuesday night, Karunakara reportedly arrived there, hurled abuses, and in a fit of rage poured petrol on his wife before setting her ablaze. When her parents and brother rushed to save her, he allegedly attacked them as well, leaving all of them with severe burn injuries.
Hearing their screams, locals caught the accused and handed him over to police. The injured were first taken to Pratappur Community Health Centre and later shifted to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital as their condition worsened. Police have launched a detailed investigation.
