Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: In a tragic incident, a 27-year-old police constable posted at the Nayagarh Reserve Police Barrack allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his service rifle inside the barracks.

The deceased has been identified as Sunil Sethy, a native of Beruabari village under Nuagaon block in Nayagarh district. According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred within the barrack premises while he was on duty.

Sources said Sethy was engaged and his marriage was scheduled to take place in the coming days. It is suspected that he was under mental stress after reportedly failing to secure leave for his wedding preparations. Unable to cope with the pressure, he is believed to have taken the extreme step.

On being informed, Nayagarh Town Police rushed to the spot along with a forensic team. The area was cordoned off and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.

Police officials said the exact reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained. An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances and factors that led to the unfortunate incident.
