Newborn girl found abandoned near garbage dump in Balangir, rescued by villagers
Bhubaneswar, Jan 29: Balangir district was shaken by a disturbing incident on Thursday after a newborn baby girl was found abandoned near a garbage dump at Dharabagarh village under the Badamal police outpost of Saintala police station. The shocking discovery came to light when local villagers noticed the infant lying helplessly near the dumping site and immediately raised an alarm.
Hearing the cries, residents rushed to the spot, rescued the newborn, and ensured she was taken for urgent medical attention. The baby was promptly shifted to the Saintala Community Health Centre (CHC), where she is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have been closely monitoring her condition, and officials said her health status is stable.
The Child Protection Unit has been informed about the incident and is actively overseeing the infant’s care and safety. Meanwhile, police have launched a detailed investigation to identify those responsible for abandoning the newborn and to determine the circumstances that led to the inhumane act. Efforts are also underway to trace the baby’s parents or guardians.
The incident has sparked concern and outrage among local residents, who expressed alarm over recurring cases of newborn girls being abandoned in the district. However, no concrete leads or eyewitness accounts have emerged so far.
