Cuttack Revenue Inspector arrested by Vigilance for taking ₹10,000 bribe in mutation case
Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Janaki Ranjan Mallik, Revenue Inspector (RI) of Kakhadi Circle under Sadar Tahasil in Cuttack district, on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a landowner for official favour.
According to Vigilance sources, the accused RI allegedly demanded the bribe in exchange for submitting a favourable report in a mutation case and issuing the Record of Rights (RoR/Patta) in the complainant’s name. The landowner had applied online for mutation of land and Mallik had fixed the hearing date for January 27, 2026. However, he reportedly asked the applicant to visit his office earlier on January 20, 2026, where he demanded illegal gratification to process the case smoothly.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the landowner approached Odisha Vigilance, which laid a trap. Mallik was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. The entire tainted money was recovered and seized from his possession.
Following the arrest, Vigilance officials launched simultaneous searches at three locations linked to Mallik to probe possible possession of disproportionate assets. A case has been registered against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway.
