Sambalpur University student found dead in hostel room, police launch probe
Bhubaneswar, Jan 21: In a tragic incident, a second-year postgraduate Economics student of Sambalpur University was reportedly found dead at the Brahmaputra hostel late on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Suraj Kujur, a native of Kutra area in Sundargarh district.
According to reports, hostel authorities discovered Kujur’s body hanging from the ceiling fan inside his room number 52. The shocking sight prompted them to immediately inform the university administration, which in turn alerted the Burla police. A police team swiftly reached the hostel, secured the room, and recovered the body for further examination.
While initial suspicion points towards suicide, police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the student’s death. Officers are examining all possible angles, including Kujur’s mental health condition, academic pressure, personal issues, and any other potential motives. Statements of fellow students and hostel staff are also being recorded as part of the probe.
Confirming the incident, University Registrar Pradeep Naik said that police were informed without delay and the student’s family has been notified about the tragic development. The incident has left the campus in shock, with students and teachers expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
