Bomb threat to Jagannath Temple sparks high alert in Puri, police launch probe
Bhubaneswar, Jan 21: Puri Police have intensified security and launched a detailed investigation following a bomb threat to the world-famous Jagannath Temple that surfaced through a social media post.
According to reports, the threat was issued from a Facebook account named “Juli Rani Panda,” which claimed bombs would be hurled at the Jagannath Temple and Puri Grand Centre. The post also included a threat of a gun attack on Rajya Sabha MP Subhasish Khuntia, triggering widespread concern.
Speaking to the media, Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh said a special investigation team led by the City DSP has been formed to probe the matter. “We are closely examining the URL link and other technical details of the suspicious social media account. The facts will be clearer by evening,” he stated.
Security at the Jagannath Temple has been significantly tightened. Bomb disposal squads are conducting thorough checks of both the inner and outer premises. The Special Security Force and Special Commandos have been deployed on high alert to ensure the safety of devotees and temple staff. Additional security arrangements have also been made at key locations across Puri city, while personal security for MP Subhasish Khuntia has been strengthened.
The threatening posts went viral on social media, causing panic among residents and devotees. Temple servitors have demanded swift action and urged police to identify and arrest the person responsible.
