SJTA files police complaint over AI-generated videos of Lord Jagannath, devotees outraged
Bhubaneswar, Jan 20: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has lodged a formal complaint with the Singhadwar police station against a social media account named ‘vishvrajcreation’ for allegedly sharing AI-generated images and videos of Lord Jagannath that have hurt the religious sentiments of devotees.
According to reports, the temple authorities approached the police after several objectionable visuals went viral on social media platforms. In one of the AI-generated videos, a massive statue of Lord Jagannath is seen placed on a platform in front of the Srimandir, with milk being poured over it using a crane. Another video shows the deity holding a conch and chakra, with a digitally created sea in front of the temple.
These visuals, which are against established religious traditions and practices, have sparked widespread outrage among devotees. Many have demanded the immediate removal of the content and strict action against those responsible for creating and circulating such videos.
Condemning the content, the SJTA stated that it has disturbed religious harmony and deeply hurt devotees’ emotions. The complaint was submitted by Srimandir Security Administrator Hemant Kumar Padhi, who urged the police to take appropriate legal action. Police have initiated an inquiry into the matter.
