Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an elderly man in the Dhusuri area of Bhadrak district, triggering shock and outrage among local residents. According to reports, the incident took place on January 11, but the matter came to light only after the traumatised victim gathered courage to share her ordeal with her family members.

After learning about the incident, the girl’s family immediately approached the Aradi police outpost and lodged a formal complaint. Acting promptly on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the law and detained the accused, who is reportedly a neighbour of the victim. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused took advantage of the minor when she was alone.

The victim was taken for a medical examination as part of the investigation process. After completing the necessary procedures, police handed her over to her family members. Authorities said her statement will be recorded in detail to strengthen the case.

The incident has sparked concern in the locality, with residents demanding strict action against the accused. Police officials assured that a thorough investigation is underway and that all necessary legal steps will be taken to ensure justice for the minor victim.
