Doctors call off statewide agitation after talks with government
Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: Patients across Odisha can finally breathe a sigh of relief as government doctors have decided to withdraw their statewide agitation, paving the way for the restoration of normal healthcare services. The Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) announced the suspension of the strike following a detailed discussion with the state government, ensuring that regular outpatient department (OPD) services will resume in government hospitals from Friday.
The decision came after a crucial meeting between OMSA representatives and Health & Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling. During the interaction, doctors raised concerns regarding service conditions, workplace safety, and other professional challenges. Minister Mahaling informed that the government has already constituted a high-level committee to examine the demands put forward by the doctors.
He assured that the committee would submit its recommendations soon and emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing the suggested measures. “Based on this assurance, the doctors have agreed to withdraw their agitation,” the minister stated.
OMSA President Dr Kishore Mishra described the discussions as constructive and positive. He expressed confidence that several issues would be resolved by Thursday evening. “For now, we have suspended the agitation, and normal hospital services will resume from tomorrow,” he said.
With the strike called off, government hospitals across Odisha are expected to return to full functionality. This move will end the two-hour daily OPD shutdown that had disrupted patient services over the past few days.
