Gangadhar Meher University website restored after cyber attack
Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: The official website of Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) in Sambalpur has been successfully restored after it was reportedly hacked on Wednesday night, triggering concern among students and university authorities.
According to sources, unidentified hackers defaced the website by displaying the Pakistani national flag along with provocative messages such as “ISI Zindabad” and “Pakistan Zindabad” on the homepage.
Preliminary reports suggest that the cyber attack was carried out by a Pakistan-based hacking group, with an ID named “Overthrash13” linked to the incident. The appearance of inflammatory content on the university’s website caused panic and raised serious questions about the institution’s cybersecurity preparedness.
Technical teams immediately swung into action to remove the objectionable content and restore the website to its original form. University officials confirmed that the site is now fully functional. A detailed technical investigation is underway to determine how the hackers managed to breach the system.
The varsity administration has reported the matter to cyber police, seeking a thorough probe into the incident. Authorities have assured that additional security measures will be implemented to prevent such cyber intrusions in the future.
The incident has highlighted the growing threat of cybercrime and the need for robust digital security infrastructure in educational institutions.
