Class-III student killed, two injured as notice board collapses in Koraput school
Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: A tragic accident at the Government Upgraded Residential School under Kotpad police station in Odisha’s Koraput district claimed the life of a Class-III student and left two others seriously injured on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the local community. The incident has raised serious concerns over safety measures in government-run educational institutions.
The deceased student was identified as Premanand Bhatra, a young boy from Sauniguda village under Gumuda panchayat. According to school authorities, the mishap occurred in the morning hours when the students were engaged in routine activities, including brushing their teeth on the school premises. During this time, a notice board reportedly became loose and suddenly collapsed, falling directly on the children.
The impact proved fatal for Premanand, who succumbed to his injuries. Two other students sustained serious injuries in the accident. They were immediately rushed to the Kotpad Community Health Centre for emergency treatment. As the condition of one of the injured children worsened, doctors referred him to Jeypore Hospital for advanced medical care.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area, with parents and locals demanding accountability and improved safety infrastructure in residential schools to prevent such tragedies in the future.
