Capital Police submit 700-page chargesheet in constable Shubhamitra Sahoo murder case
Bhubaneswar, Dec 2: The Capital Police have filed a detailed 700-page chargesheet in the sensational murder case of woman constable Shubhamitra Sahoo, marking a major step forward in the investigation. The chargesheet identifies her husband, Deepak Raut, as the prime accused, along with several of his associates who allegedly helped him execute and cover up the crime. Statements of 42 witnesses have been recorded, and charges have been framed under BNS Sections 103(1), 238, and 61(2).
The extensive chargesheet contains crucial evidence, including materials collected from the crime spot and the location where the body was dumped. It also includes the forensic report, digital proof, and witness testimonies. Notably, the couple’s court marriage certificate and photographs documenting their relationship have been added as supporting evidence.
Investigators revealed that a financial dispute was the primary trigger. Deepak had reportedly taken a loan from Shubhamitra, and tensions escalated between the two. This ultimately led to her murder. Shocking details further indicate that after committing the crime, Deepak purchased an insurance policy worth ₹1.25 crore, allegedly with the intention of claiming the amount. He later attempted to destroy evidence with help from accomplices.
Shubhamitra, posted at the Traffic DCP office under Commissionerate Police, went missing on September 6. Her decomposed body was discovered days later in a forest in Keonjhar.
