SOP for dress code in Puri Jagannath Temple to be issued soon

Puri, Oct 12: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) is preparing to introduce an official set of guidelines for enforcing a dress code within the historic 12th-century shrine.
The Niti sub-committee, which serves as the highest authority for ritual decisions at the Puri Jagannath Temple, has emphasized the importance of wearing traditional attire when visiting the temple. These new regulations are expected to take effect before the upcoming year.
In an effort to maintain the sanctity of the temple and show respect to the deity, the SJTA has kindly requested that devotees dress modestly during their temple visits. According to official sources, the SJTA will soon communicate the specifics of this dress code to the devotees.
On numerous occasions, temple visitors have not adhered to appropriate attire, which has been seen as disrespectful to the temple and offensive to the religious sentiments associated with the site. To address this issue, the temple administration plans to install informative signs outside the temple premises to educate visitors about the new dress code.
Additionally, individuals who serve at the temple but do not have specific service assignments will be encouraged to wear traditional clothing.
The implementation of such attire guidelines when visiting religious places is common across various faiths, with the primary aim being to maintain the dignity and sanctity of the shrine. The Jagannath Temple Police and the Pratihari servitors will be responsible for ensuring that devotees comply with these regulations, as stated by sources within the SJTA.
