Six years later, devotees to revisit Gundicha Temple from December 1
Bhubaneswar, Nov 26: After being closed for nearly six years, the historic Gundicha Temple in Puri is finally set to reopen for devotees on December 1. The confirmation came from Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Deputy Chief Administrator and Puri District Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida on Wednesday, bringing joy and relief to thousands of devotees.
Ahead of the reopening, the administration has taken several steps to improve the temple surroundings and ensure a safe, smooth experience for visitors. All encroachments near the temple have been cleared, and arrangements are being made to manage the expected crowd efficiently. The SJTA will take full charge of temple operations once the temple is opened.
“We plan to reopen the Gundicha Temple for devotees on December 1. Encroachments have been cleared, and we have discussed how the darshan system will work. An SOP will be issued soon,” said Parida.
Earlier, on October 30, 2025, SJTA Chief Administrator Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee had also informed that the reopening process was underway and assured that the SJTA would directly manage all activities.
Devotees and tourists from across the country are eagerly waiting for the temple doors to open once again, hoping to seek blessings at this sacred site.
