Bhubaneswar, Nov 13: A viral video from Puri has triggered widespread outrage among devotees after it showed a woman eating Mahaprasad while wearing shoes at the revered Jagannath Temple’s Parikrama Marg. The video, reportedly filmed on Tuesday evening, captures the woman standing and consuming Mahaprasad—a sacred offering of Lord Jagannath—without following traditional customs.

In Jagannath culture, Mahaprasad holds immense spiritual significance. It is believed that even seeing it can bestow divine blessings, and eating it with devotion brings spiritual liberation. Tradition dictates that devotees must remove their footwear and sit on the ground while partaking in the offering.

In the viral footage, a bystander is heard pointing out the woman’s inappropriate act, after which she hurriedly leaves the area. However, the lack of immediate action from other devotees and temple staff has drawn criticism on social media. Many have expressed concern over the growing disregard for temple traditions and have urged authorities to ensure stricter enforcement of sacred customs within the temple premises.
