Cold wave grips Odisha; temperature drops to 10°C in several districts
Bhubaneswar, Nov 12: Residents across Odisha woke up to chilly weather conditions as a cold wave tightened its grip on several parts of the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Wednesday. The department predicted a further drop of 2–3°C in night temperatures over the next 24 hours, after which temperatures are expected to stabilize.
According to the IMD, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, and Sundargarh are witnessing the sharpest fall in temperature. On Wednesday night, the mercury is expected to plunge to 10°C in Phulbani, Sundargarh, Rourkela, and Jharsuguda, while Keonjhar and Angul may record 12°C. Other districts like Dhenkanal, Koraput, and Bhadrak are likely to experience around 13°C.
The cold conditions are expected to persist through Thursday night, with Phulbani remaining at 10°C and Jharsuguda, Angul, and Rourkela hovering around 11°C.
The IMD has advised residents to take precautions, particularly the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses, as temperatures continue to fall. People have been urged to wear warm clothing and avoid exposure to cold winds during early morning and late-night hours.
