Odisha on high alert after Delhi car blast; state government says ‘No Immediate Threat’
Bhubaneswar, Nov 11: Odisha remains safe and faces no immediate danger in the wake of the devastating car blast in Delhi, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan assured on Tuesday. Speaking to the media, Harichandan said the state government has nevertheless intensified security as a precautionary measure, given the gravity of the incident in the national capital.
“Though there is no direct threat to Odisha, certain conspirators are attempting to destabilize the country through violent activities. To ensure complete safety, police and administrative authorities are on high alert, especially at sensitive locations such as the Puri Jagannath temple,” Harichandan stated.
He informed that a high-level security review meeting was convened late Monday night at the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack, chaired by DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania. Officials assessed preparedness across districts and directed immediate tightening of surveillance and checks.
Security has been stepped up in railway stations, airports, major tourist sites, and heritage monuments. District collectors and SPs have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance and respond swiftly to any suspicious activity.
The Delhi blast occurred around 6:52 pm near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort, when a Hyundai i20 suddenly exploded, setting nearby vehicles on fire. The powerful blast killed at least 10 people and injured over two dozen.
