IMD issues cold wave warning for six Odisha districts as night temperatures continue to plunge
Bhubaneswar, Nov 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued a cold wave alert for isolated pockets of Cuttack, Anugul, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, and Khordha districts on November 11 and 12. The warning comes as minimum temperatures across Odisha continue to dip sharply, signalling the onset of colder conditions typical of early winter.
According to the midday weather bulletin issued at 1 PM, no significant synoptic system is present over the region, resulting in predominantly dry weather conditions. However, a noticeable fall in night temperatures has prompted IMD to activate the alert for Day 2 and Day 3, covering the period from 8:30 AM of November 11 to 8:30 AM of November 13.
The department observed an appreciable drop of 2°C to 4°C in minimum temperatures at a few locations in Interior Odisha and parts of South Coastal Odisha. In some areas of North Odisha, temperatures have dipped to as low as 11°C, with Phulbani recording the lowest minimum of 11.0°C. Meanwhile, Paralakhemundi reported the highest maximum temperature at 33.6°C.
Dry weather is expected to prevail across all districts for the next seven days, with moderate to shallow fog likely in a few interior locations. For Bhubaneswar, the forecast indicates clear skies with maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 30°C and 14°C, respectively.
