Cold wave grips Odisha; temperatures set to dip further as winter sets in
Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: A cold wave has started sweeping across Odisha, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting a further drop in minimum temperatures over the next few days due to clear skies and dry conditions.
According to the IMD, the minimum temperature across most districts has been hovering between 19°C and 22°C, marking the onset of the winter season. Koraput recorded the lowest temperature at 16°C, followed by Daringbadi and Phulbani at around 18°C, while Jharsuguda, Bhadrak, and Angul registered 19°C. Other regions such as Keonjhar, Kendrapara, Paralakhemundi, Jajpur, and Rourkela reported minimum temperatures near 21°C.
Meteorologists forecast that the night temperature may drop by 2°C to 3°C in several parts of the state over the next 48 hours, after which no major change is expected. The dip is attributed to clear skies and absence of rain, allowing heat to escape rapidly during nighttime.
The IMD has advised residents, especially children and the elderly, to take precautions to stay warm, as the cold wave conditions may intensify further in the coming days.
