Subalaya shuts down for 12 hours in protest over NAC status
Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: The Subalaya NAC Action Committee staged a 12-hour shutdown yesterday , protesting the state government’s failure to reinstate Subalaya as a Notified Area Council (NAC)—a status previously granted by the former administration.
Protesters alleged that the earlier government had officially declared Subalaya a NAC, but the current administration withdrew the notification, sparking widespread anger among residents. Locals, disappointed with the government’s inaction, took to the streets demanding the reinstatement of NAC status, highlighting the developmental benefits and administrative recognition associated with it.
During the shutdown, shops, markets, schools, colleges, and most vehicular movement came to a halt, while essential services continued to operate. Protesters held pickets, raised slogans, and marched through various parts of Subalaya to draw attention to their demand.
The Subalaya NAC Action Committee warned that they would escalate the agitation if the government failed to take immediate steps to restore the NAC status. The protest reflects growing public discontent and the strong desire of the local community to gain administrative recognition and access to development schemes tied to the NAC designation. Authorities monitored the situation to ensure peace during the shutdown.
