IMD predicts fresh low-pressure formation over Bay of Bengal; Odisha braces for weather changes
Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on Friday, signalling possible weather disturbances in the eastern coastal region, including Odisha.
According to IMD’s latest bulletin, this weather system is likely to form under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation currently lying over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea, extending up to the middle tropospheric levels. Meteorologists said the system is expected to move west-northwestwards and may intensify further into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 24 hours.
While it is too early to predict whether the system will develop into a cyclone, IMD officials are closely monitoring its movement and potential intensification. The formation could bring increased rainfall, gusty winds, and rough sea conditions along coastal areas in the coming days.
The IMD has advised fishermen and coastal residents, particularly in southern Odisha, to stay alert and follow regular weather updates and advisories for safety and preparedness.
