Key accused in lawyer Pitabash Panda murder case surrenders; hunt on for main shooter
Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: In a major breakthrough in the sensational murder case of lawyer and BJP leader Pitabash Panda, absconding businessman Sudarshan Jena has surrendered before police, marking a significant turn in the ongoing investigation.
According to sources, Sudarshan, a known associate of former MLA Bikram Kumar Panda, appeared at the Baidyanathpur Police Station in Berhampur and gave himself up. His surrender came just a day after the police arrested 12 accused persons connected to the case and sent them to jail.
Later that night, police also detained Sunil Hota from Jeypore for questioning. Hota allegedly provided shelter to two of the accused at his farmhouse and financed their stay, as revealed by Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M during a press briefing on Wednesday.
Currently, both Jena and Hota are being interrogated by the police to trace the main accused, Kurupati Bhuyan, who allegedly fired the fatal shot, and Uma Bishoyi, who are still absconding.
Police believe the arrest of Bishoyi will be crucial in uncovering the larger conspiracy behind the murder that has drawn widespread public and political attention.
