Puri Srimandir to come under advanced security surveillance; no-fly zone declared
Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: The iconic Puri Jagannath Temple is set to come under one of the most advanced security systems in the country, with comprehensive safety measures planned both inside and outside the shrine. A meeting of the security sub-committee, held at Niladri Bhakta Niwas in Puri, finalized the deployment of a large contingent of security personnel to ensure round-the-clock vigilance.
Headed by former CAG and temple management committee member Girish Chandra Murmu, the meeting discussed key issues such as fire and electrical safety, drone restrictions, and communication upgrades. Plans are underway to introduce a walkie-talkie communication system inside the temple to strengthen coordination among security staff. The committee also deliberated on enhancing surveillance and strictly prohibiting the use of mobile phones within the temple premises.
Notably, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recently classified the 12th-century shrine as a ‘Red Zone’, banning drone operations in the temple’s airspace for the next three years—until September 25, 2028. The move follows multiple reports of unauthorized drones flying over the temple, prompting authorities to step up measures to protect the sanctity and security of Srimandir.
