Southwest Monsoon begins withdrawal from parts of Odisha, IMD issues weather alert

Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the Southwest Monsoon has started withdrawing from several parts of Odisha, marking the onset of the post-monsoon transition period. According to the IMD’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar, the current line of withdrawal extends through 14°N/72°E, Karwar, Kalburgi, Nizamabad, Kanker, Keonjhargarh, Sagar Island, Guwahati, and 28°N/92.5°E.
Meteorologists stated that favourable conditions are developing for the monsoon’s complete withdrawal from the remaining parts of Odisha, as well as from Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Maharashtra, and the northeastern states within the next two to three days.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of Malkangiri, Gajapati, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, and Mayurbhanj districts. These regions are likely to experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by lightning over the next few hours.
The department has urged residents to stay alert and move to safer places in case of adverse weather, emphasizing precautions against lightning strikes, which pose a serious threat during the changing weather conditions.
