Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: In a shocking incident on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, a lab assistant of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, identified as Sudhanshu Khuntia, was shot dead near Sarkantara village late Sunday night. Police have detained three persons in connection with the case and launched a detailed investigation.

According to police sources, the incident occurred when Khuntia was returning home after completing his night shift. Unidentified assailants reportedly intercepted him and fired a bullet into his lower left chest, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle and crash. Though he was immediately rushed to AIIMS in critical condition, doctors declared him dead shortly after.

Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Dutta Singh stated that a case has been registered and assured that the case would be “solved soon.” He added that preliminary investigations point toward a family dispute, as the deceased’s relatives have alleged the involvement of members of his uncle’s family. Some of them were also injured during the clash. Police continue to interrogate the detainees while further forensic and ballistic examinations are underway.
