Body of missing youth recovered from Gundichaghagi waterfall in Keonjhar

Bhubaneswar, Oct 6: The body of a young man who went missing after drowning in the Gundichaghagi waterfall under Ghatgaon police station limits in Keonjhar district was recovered on Monday, bringing an end to an anxious search. The deceased has been identified as Satyaprakash Mahanta, a resident of Badasiadimala village under Harichandanpur block.
According to reports, Satyaprakash had gone to the scenic waterfall on Sunday with friends and accidentally slipped into deep water while bathing. Despite repeated attempts, his friends failed to rescue him and immediately informed local authorities.
Following the alert, a joint rescue operation was launched by fire brigade personnel and Ghatgaon police. After an extensive search lasting several hours, the rescue team finally located his body stuck in a rocky crevice nearly 200 meters downstream from the main waterfall.
The body was later retrieved and sent for post-mortem examination before being handed over to his family.
Notably, this is the second such drowning incident reported from Gundichaghagi within a month, raising serious concerns over tourist safety and the need for better precautionary measures at the popular waterfall site.
