Man killed in wild elephant attack while collecting mushrooms in Angul
Bhubaneswar, Sept 26: In a tragic incident, a 55-year-old man was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant in Angul district during the early hours of Friday. The deceased has been identified as Subash Chandra Pradhan, a resident of Badasahi village under Chhendipada block.
According to reports, Pradhan had ventured into a nearby forest, around two kilometres from his village, to collect mushrooms. While he was engaged in gathering them, a lone wild elephant suddenly charged at him. Locals rushed to his aid and managed to rescue him from the spot. He was immediately shifted to Chhendipada Hospital with severe injuries.
As his condition worsened, doctors referred him to Angul District Headquarters Hospital, where he was declared dead despite all efforts. The sudden death has cast a pall of gloom over Badasahi village, leaving family members and neighbours in deep shock.
Meanwhile, forest department officials reached the site and have launched an investigation into the incident. Efforts are also being made to track the movement of the elephant to prevent further human-wildlife conflicts in the area.
