Five killed, several injured as bus collides head-on with truck in Sundargarh
Bhubaneswar, Sept 25: A tragic road accident claimed five lives and left several others injured after a private bus named Lingaraj, traveling from Rourkela to Koida, collided head-on with a speeding truck on Thursday. The accident occurred on National Highway-520 in Koida block under K Balang Police station limits of Sundargarh district.
Eyewitnesses said the collision was so severe that the front portion of the bus was mangled, leaving many passengers trapped inside. The impact threw several passengers off their seats, while others sustained serious injuries. Panic gripped the area as cries for help filled the air.
Emergency services were immediately alerted, and police along with fire service personnel rushed to the spot. Rescue teams used gas cutters and other equipment to break open the bus windows and pull out the trapped passengers. The injured were quickly shifted to nearby hospitals, while those in critical condition were referred to Rourkela Government Hospital for advanced treatment.
As of the last report, rescue operations were still underway, with officials working tirelessly to ensure no passenger remained trapped. The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety on the busy NH-520 corridor, known for frequent accidents.
