Mother and son die of snakebite in Sundargarh
Bhubaneswar, Sept 24: In a heart-wrenching incident, a mother and her four-year-old son lost their lives to a venomous snakebite in Badachua village under Mahulpada police station limits of Sundargarh district’s Bonai sub-division during the early hours of Wednesday.
According to reports, Rath Kulu, his wife Tulasi Kulu, and their son Avinash were asleep in their house when, around 3 am, a poisonous snake entered and bit both Tulasi and Avinash. Realizing the danger, Rath immediately rushed his wife and son to the Bonai Sub-Divisional Hospital.
Doctors declared little Avinash dead on arrival, while Tulasi was referred to Rourkela Government Hospital for advanced treatment. However, tragedy struck again as Tulasi succumbed to the venom while being transported to Rourkela.
The double tragedy has plunged the entire Badachua village into mourning, with relatives and neighbors struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of two lives from the same family.
Authorities have noted that this is not an isolated case. Disturbingly, at least 12 people have died due to snakebites in Sundargarh district alone over the past two months, raising serious concerns about public awareness and timely access to treatment.
