Missing 8-year-old girl found dead in Bhadrak Canal, murder suspected
Bhubaneswar, Sept 18: In a heart-wrenching incident, the body of an 8-year-old girl, who had gone missing from Radhanathpur village under Basudebpur municipality in Bhadrak district, was recovered from the Coast Canal near her home on Thursday. The girl had reportedly been abducted on Saturday while she was playing with her sister close to their residence.
Following her disappearance, an intensive search operation was launched under the leadership of Bhadrak Superintendent of Police Manoj Rout. He was assisted by the Additional SP, SDPO, and Inspectors from Basudebpur, Chudamani, and Nayakanidihi police stations. Multiple teams, including the Odisha Rapid Action Force (ORAF) and the fire brigade, were pressed into service. Investigators also collected samples and examined CCTV footage in an attempt to identify the accused.
On Wednesday, Eastern Range DIG Pinak Mishra personally visited the area to oversee the probe. Despite the extensive efforts, the girl’s body was finally discovered in the canal, raising strong suspicion of murder.
The recovery has triggered shock and grief across the locality. Police officials have assured that every angle is being investigated and the perpetrator will be tracked down and punished.
