Incessant rainfall brings life to a standstill in Malkangiri, connectivity severely hit

Bhubaneswar, Sept 2: Heavy and continuous rainfall has thrown life out of gear in Malkangiri district of Odisha, with major roads and bridges submerged, cutting off connectivity with neighbouring states. The situation has caused severe hardship for commuters, villagers, and transport services.
The Kankarakonda bridge on National Highway-326 has once again gone under water due to rising rain-fed streams. With water flowing 4–5 feet above the bridge surface, traffic movement between Malkangiri and Kalimela has come to a complete halt. Dozens of vehicles, including buses traveling from Hyderabad to Odisha, remain stranded on both sides, leaving passengers inconvenienced.
Reports further indicate that the National Highway linking Andhra Pradesh and Telangana via Kalimela has been disrupted due to overflowing water. Vehicles are stuck at multiple points, while landslides in hilly regions have worsened the situation.
Villages such as Talarangapani and Uparangapani, located near the NALCO mining belt, are also facing severe problems. Roads connecting Kukudasill and Rangapani have been blocked by landslides, restricting movement. While two-wheelers manage to pass, four-wheelers remain stranded. Authorities are monitoring the situation, but relief is unlikely until water levels recede.
