Tigress Zeenat thrives in Similipal after release, say officials

Bhubaneswar, Aug 20: Tigress Zeenat, translocated from Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve under the big cat supplementation project, is adapting well to her new home in Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR), Odisha, officials confirmed.
According to STR authorities, Zeenat has been thriving in the core zones of the reserve, regularly hunting wild prey such as sambar, chital, and wild pigs. Her activities are being continuously tracked through satellite monitoring and camera traps, which help forest officials assess her health and movement patterns. Dedicated field teams are on round-the-clock watch to ensure her safety and smooth adaptation.
“Zeenat has settled well within the core areas since her release. Her hunting activity shows that she is successfully adjusting to the habitat. We receive constant satellite updates, and camera trap footage confirms she is in good health,” said Deputy Director of STR Samrat Gouda.
This marks a positive development after Zeenat’s dramatic journey last year when she strayed out of Similipal and wandered across Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal for nearly 23 days before being recaptured and brought back. Authorities believe her current progress signals long-term stability in the reserve.
