Odisha bids tearful farewell to CISF jawan Manoj Biswal martyred in J&K landslide

Bhubaneswar, Aug 18: A pall of grief enveloped Manikamara village in Dhenkanal’s Parjang block on Sunday as the mortal remains of CISF jawan Manoj Biswal arrived home amid a grand procession. Wrapped in the Tricolour, the braveheart was given an emotional farewell by thousands of villagers, officials, and fellow servicemen.
Biswal lost his life in the devastating cloudburst and landslides that struck Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on August 14. He was deployed near the Machail Mata temple in Paddar when torrential rains triggered flash floods, sweeping away camps and blocking vital routes. Missing since 12:25 pm on the fateful day, his body was recovered two days later, on August 16, by rescue teams.
Serving the CISF for over three decades, Biswal was known for his discipline and dedication. He leaves behind his wife and two daughters, while his younger brother, Biplab Biswal, continues to serve in the force.
At Bhubaneswar airport, his body was accorded a guard of honour, before being taken to his native village for last rites performed with full state honours. The tragedy, which claimed over 40 lives and injured 100 others, has left Odisha mourning the sacrifice of one of its proud sons.
